Toastmasters International

Toastmasters International is a club where members meet weekly to practice public speaking and leading meetings.

At each meeting members get the chance to practice conducting meetings or giving speeches. Also members give each other constructive feedback. In my experience, public speaking clubs like this offer the best opportunity to build your confidence. Everyone is there to help each other out.

Here are some top tips from the Toastmasters web site.

Tip 1 - Know The Room. Try to get there early so you can make sure everything is as you want it.

Tip 2 - Know The Audience. If you don't know people beforehand, try to greet some of them before you start making your speech.

Tip 3 - Know Your Material. Practice your speech so that you can bring the main points to mind without any notes.

Tip 4 - Relax. Following the first 3 tips will help, and also you can try some physical exercises - like breathing!

Tip 5 - Visualise. Before the day, play a mental movie in your mind of giving a successful speech.

Toastmasters is a non-profit organization established in 1924 with branches world-wide. You can check whether there is a club near you by visiting the Toastmasters International web site.
